BURSAGAZ ATTENDED THE “ENERGY SECTOR SHARING PANEL”

A panel was held in Ankara TOBB Economy and Technology University TOBB ETÜ Conference Hall on December 9, 2011 between 13:00 and 18:30, during which the subjects of Competition in the Energy Sector, Change Management in the Energy Sector, Change Management in the Fuel Oil and Energy Sector, and Change Management in the Gas Sector were discussed.

The Energy Sector Sharing Panel was held with the participation of contributors such as the General Director of Enerjik Att. Ali Niyazi Lüle, Chief Executive Officer of KalDer Ankara Branch M. Fahir Altan, President of the Energy Market Regulatory Authority Hasan Köktaş, Chief Consultant of Competition Authority Erkan Yardımcı, EMRA Strategy Development Head of Department Gülefşan Demirbaş, Vice General Director of Tüpraş Gürol Acar, General Secretary of Petder Erol Metin, Vice General Director of TPPD Ahmet Türkoğlu, Elder Coordinator Uğur Yüksel, Gazbir Foundation Manager Sibel Sayıner, General Director of İgdaş Bilal Aslan and General Director of Bursagaz Ahmet Hakan Tola.

Att. Ali Niyazi Lüle, who delivered the opening speech, maintained “With the start of privatization in the energy sector, human resources were first evaluated by being selected from the public sector. In time, however, due to a decrease of motivation in personnel remaining in the public sector and the need of the private sector for additional human resources, new high-quality human resource investments began. It is important that the necessary processes are implemented in the areas of competence, quality and motivation in the energy sector, which undergoes a continuous and rapid change.”

M. Fahir ALTAN, who took the floor next, provided the examples of Bursagaz, which acheived a quality award in its journey of excellence, along with İGDAŞ and Opet and stated that Turkey is developing in the direction of its 2023 vision. He added that in addition to this, countries are classified as production-oriented, development-oriented and renewal-oriented and that Turkey is progressing in all three categories.

Hasan Köktaş, the last spokesperson in the opening ceremony, proffered valuable statements about sectoral human resources. Köktaş stated “Investments made in quality in the areas of fuel oil, natural gas and electricity, which are among the most important areas of activity within the Turkish energy sector, are very important. Companies who take quality awards are an example of this. However, self-criticism should not be overlooked. The element which makes this meeting important is this side of the energy sector that remained unaddressed until this date. When energy is discussed in our country, MW, number of subscribers and amount of consumption are mentioned. With this panel, human beings, quality and change management were finally taken into the agenda. Companies operating in the energy sector are only operating within the frame of their regulations and licenses. A visionary perspective is, unfortunately, rare. At the same time, there is a reaction against the innovations which occur in this sector. Sufficient investment is not made in humans. The most important reason for this is that the human resources of the energy sector have an origin in the public sector. The energy sector is integrated into the state of affairs of the world and there is a strong connection between them. For this reason, the view of the energy sector on world markets and its monitoring is important. The world is inclining towards smart networks. Turkey has to keep up with this without falling behind." Köktaş concluded his remarks by saying “The only thing which does not change is change itself. Those who manage change well will gain not only today but also the future."

The panel continued with presentations by Erkan Yardımcı, under the title of Competition in the Energy Sector, Gülefşan Demirbaş and Gürol Acar, under the title of Change Management in the Energy Sector, and Erol METİN, Ahmet TÜRKOĞLU and Uğur YÜKSEL, under the title of Change Management in the Fuel Oil and Energy Sector.

Finally, the subject of Change Management in the Gas Sector was addressed by the panel. After Sibel Sayıner's speech, General Director of İGDAŞ Bilal Aslan mentioned the activities carried out by İGDAŞ from the past to the present and left the floor to the General Director of Bursagaz Ahmet Hakan Tola.

Tola presented in detail Natural Gas and Bursagaz in Bursa from the Past to the Present, the Period of Passing from the Public to the Private Sector, Integration into Management Systems, Corporate Strategic Management, Process-Based Management and Being the Leading Natural Gas Distribution Company in the Sector and provided information about Bursagaz’s change management. He stated that the company has always supported change and development, they have planned their investments accordingly and that they attached considerable importance to human resources by following related technologies. He also emphasized that these activities were affirmed on a wider scale by the quality certificates awarded to the company as a result of ISO audits. Tola concluded by attesting that Bursagaz is rapidly becoming a leader and model company shaping the sector, and Tola wished success to all companies who are also sweating blood for this purpose.
